Andy Lutwyche on Worthing Cricket Club – 1st XI

Andy Lutwyche comments on Worthing Cricket Club – 1st XI :

1st XI v Brighton & Hove (Away):

Darryl Rebbetts lost the toss at The Nevill and Worthing were duly in the field first up. A good start with the ball despite Sussex first teamer Luke Wells dealing with balls on his legs mercilessly. A decent batting track, short boundary and lightning outfield meant the potential of a large score, but the hosts’ nigh-on 58 overs produced 237 all out which was extremely gettable, although it could have been better with B&H at 140 for 7. Luke Vinter starred with the ball in taking 5 for 58, but Andy Lutwyche took 3 for 49 and Benn Challen, on his return from injury, took 2 for 65.

The batting never got going for the umpteenth week, as Malcolm Lake (22), Rebbetts (31), Alex Harris (33) and Ian Gooding (21) got starts but failed to capitalise. Only Challen, with a well worked 51 produced the sort of score that more should had and Worthing fell 30 runs short of their target.
