Bank of England comes to Worthing

Worthing & Adur Chamber of Commerce host a rare opportunity to lunch with the Bank of England on Friday June 21st at Worthing Golf Club.

Chris Piper from the Bank will update those attending on the outlook for the UK economy based on the mid May projections for inflation and growth.

The Bank has twelve Agencies based around the UK. Their primary role is to assess economic conditions affecting businesses in their area. Each month the Agencies hold a series of discussions with individual businesses, organisations and groups to assess business conditions. The Agencies are the Bank’s ‘eyes and ears’, providing information about trends and developments across the economy. Each Agency provides a monthly assessment to the MPC about business conditions, helping the MPC form a view on the likely path of the economy and inflation.

Chris has been Agent for Central Southern England since April 2009 having previously worked in the Agency network when the Bank opened the Agency for Wales in the late 1990’s. He has extensive experience in several areas of the Bank’s responsibilities having contributed over many years. After the Bank was given independence for monetary policy, he led the development of support for the monetary policy process specializing in IT and business process improvement. Chris has spent the last few years listening to hundreds of business leaders and businesses across the South of England as part of his role to assess business conditions and to brief the Monetary Policy Committee.
