WOW what a coup – this is believed to be its very first ever screening in Worthing, where it was filmed.
Based on Harold Pinter’s enigmatic play about a boarder in a British seaside dwelling who is visited by two strangers. They torment him verbally, ask him idiotic unanswerable questions, force him to sit down and stand up, and give him a “party”. Then, eventually, they take him away, a tongue-tied idiot. The trivial becomes the terrible, and with a certain wonder, a certain pity.
Stay behind after the screening to hear the winners of the South Coast Shorts announced.
‘The Birthday Party’ is at The Connaught Studio, Union Place, Worthing today (Monday June 16th) at 6.45 pm. Tickets are priced £3.50.
The event is part of the Worthing World of Words Festival (WOW), a celebration of books, literature, drama and the joy of words.
