Bob Smytherman steps in to stand for MP

Worthing’s popular former Mayor Bob Smytherman has stepped into stand as the Liberal Democrat Candidate for East Worthing & Shoreham in May’s General Election.

Jemima Bland the previous Liberal Democrat candidate has stepped down for personal reasons.

Bob said: “I am both delighted and proud to be asked to represent the Liberal Democrats at the forthcoming election at such short notice. Jemima has worked tirelessly for the party since she became PPC over two years ago and I look forward to defending the Lib Dem record in Coalition over the last five years as candidate in the constituency where I grew up.”

Former Mayor Bob has been Worthing Borough Councillor for Tarring ward since 2002 and since 2009 West Sussex County Councillor for Tarring.  Bob is Chairman of the Federation of Private Residents Associations which advise on leasehold property matters.  Before becoming a County Councillor he was a Governor of both Chatsmore High and English Martyrs Primary schools for many years.

Conservative Tim Loughton is the sitting MP for East Worthing & Shoreham. Nominations open for other candidates on Wednesday April 1st and are announced on Thursday April 9th.
