Broadwater parents angry over missing lollipop patrol

Parents of children at Broadwater First and Middle Schools are angry there is no lollipop person this term to cross the Rectory Gardens road.

Last term’s lollipop man left at the beginning of the summer holidays but West Sussex County Council have no plans to replace him.

Parent  Fliss Smith, with a son Bailey aged 8 in year 4, said: “ We have heard that West Sussex County Council don’t intend to replace the crossing patrol which is cost cutting at its most ridiculous.

“The bend on the road means visibility is very poor and I can’t believe that they would put children’s lives at risk for the sake of paying someone for what must amount to an hour and a half a day term time.”

The West Sussex Cabinet Member for Highways & Transport was unavailable for comment.
