Comment – Make your mind up

Worthing Daily thanks all the candidates and political parties who sent us their statements for the elections tomorrow (Thursday May 7th). We trust they have been useful in making up your mind how to vote.

For an early prediction we have been staring into a crystal ball – not our crystal ball but someone else’s. We have looked into American Nate Silver’s crystal ball who successfully forecast the result of every one of the 50 states in the US Presidential 2012 election.

Mr Silver has turned his talents to forecast the result of every constituency in the UK General Election tomorrow.

He makes the following prediction for Worthing:

East Worthing & Shoreham
Conservatives – Prediction: 45.8%   2010: 48.5%   Change: minus 2.7%
Labour – Prediction: 21.1%   2010: 16.7%   Change: plus 4.4%
UKIP – Prediction: 13.2%  2010: 6.2%   Change: plus 7.0%
Liberal Democrats – Prediction: 11.7%  2010: 25.5%  Change: minus 13.8%
Greens – Prediction: 5.6%   2010: 2.3%   Change: plus 3.3%
Others – Prediction: 2.6%  2010: 0.8%   Change: plus 1.8%

Worthing West

Labour – Prediction: 15.7%  2020: 11.8%  Change: plus 3.9%
UKIP – Prediction: 14.1%  2010: 6.0%  Change: plus 8.1%
Greens – Prediction:  5.5%  2010: 2.0%  Change: plus 3.5%
Others – Prediction: 0.1%  2010: 0.6%  Change: minus 0.5%

With the Daily Mail reporting a week ago 40% of voters were still to decide, the above prediction may well contain a large element of unpredictability.

Worthing Daily urges all its readers not to waste your vote, make up your mind and use your vote on Thursday.

With such uncertainty you can still make a difference.
