Compass Travel buy 7 new buses

Worthing based Compass Travel, the independent bus and coach operator, has bought another seven brand new buses following recent contract awards by both East Sussex and West Sussex County Councils.

The new buses are British-built Enviro 200’s manufactured by Alexander Dennis and supplied by Steve Swain of Southdown PSV at Copthorne.   Lombard arranged the finance.

The East Sussex contracts follow on from short-term arrangements consequent upon the demise of Countryliner Sussex, with a further two routes added which are currently operated by Renown Coaches.  The new contracts commenced on July 29th.

Managing Director of Compass, Chris Chatfield, said: “The new buses represent a further investment by ourselves in local bus transport in the counties of East And West Sussex.  We are pleased that the new contracts have been awarded on both price and quality considerations.   These new, longer-term contracts have enabled us to replace some older vehicles with new buses, to provide the quality and reliability which our passengers deserve”.

Southdown Managing Director, Steve Swain said, “We are extremely grateful for this order from Compass and we sincerely appreciate the loyalty shown by the Compass directors for once again placing their valued business with Southdown PSV.  Also, in these challenging economic times, it is very gratifying to see an independent bus company investing in new vehicles for the benefit of their passengers, staff and the bus industry as a whole.”
