Council warns on Brooklands Lake

The Environment Agency has confirmed the presence of blue green algae in the Brooklands Lake.  Worthing Borough Council advises visitors to avoid contact with the water and to keep pets away from it until further notice. Signs are being put up to alert visitors.

Contact with the water could result in the following symptoms: skin rashes, eye irritation, vomiting, diarrhoea, fever. Pains in muscles and joints can occur if any users of the water have swallowed or swam through algal scum. Visitors are advised to seek medical help if they experience any symptoms having come into contact with the water.

Worthing Borough Council is working closely with the Environment Agency and the public are asked to report any incidents of pollution or wildlife in distress via the 24 hour emergency hotline on 0800 807 060.
