Cllr Daniel Humphreys has emerged as the new leader of the Worthing Borough Council (WBC) Conservative Group and thus leader of the Council. The position has to be confirmed at a Full Council meeting.
Cllr Humphreys is councillor for Castle ward and was Cabinet Member for Resources under the previous leadership of Cllr Paul Yallop. He has a BA Honours Degree in Politics and a Masters Degree in Public Policy. Cllr Humphreys has worked across the public sector, advising senior officers and politicians on strategy and policy in local, regional and national government. He is married with two young children.
Liberal Democrat Opposition Leader Cllr Keith Sunderland was surprised at the news.
Cllr Sunderland said: “I did not see this coming as Dan has been so quiet in all the meetings so far. I wish him good luck and success as Worthing needs a good leader.”
Worthing’s Green Councillor, James Doyle said: “I look forward to working with Dan as the new leader and wish him success.”
Cllr Paul Yallop stood down as leader last week after taking up a new employment opportunity.
