The elderly woman hit by a van yesterday (August 21st) at the A27 junction with Shandon Road suffered a fractured skull, two broken ribs and internal injuries.
The victim was struck shortly after 4pm and taken to Southampton General Hospital. The 80 year-old woman, from Broadwater, was hit by a white Volkswagen Transporter and fell backwards, banging her head on a wall.
The 38-year-old driver, from Woodingdean, was not hurt.
The westbound carriageway of the road was closed for more than three hours while the victim was treated and the scene cleared.
Police officers are keen to speak to anyone who saw the crash happen or the victim or van in the moments beforehand.
