Former Worthing Councillor ordered to repay £22,000


A judge ordered former Worthing Borough Councillor Mark O’Keeffe last Friday to repay £22,000.   Mr O’Keeffe, 41 of Trent Road, Goring-by-Sea pleaded guilty in December 2012 to stealing £70,128.25 and received an 18 months prison sentence.

The funds supposedly invested in a property portfolio for a client Mr O’Keeffe used to fund his own life style.   Mr O’Keeffe ran a consultancy firm O’Keeffe & Co Legal Solutions Ltd.

On March 8 at a confiscation hearing held at Lewes Crown Court the Judge concluded the defendant’s benefit figure was £70,128.25 and an order was made in the sum of £22,007.25 being the available amount from his assets.

A sentence of 15 month imprisonment faces Mr O’Keeffe if the money is not repaid within three months and the money will still need to be repaid.

Mr O’Keeffe was Conservative Worthing Borough Councillor for Castle Ward in 2000-2002 and had also stood as a Liberal Democrat
