Folk favourites Fairport Convention return to the Connaught Theatre, Worthing at 7.30 pm on Thursday February 5th 2015.
Hailed as the originators of British folk-rock music, Fairport Convention remains one of the most entertaining bands on the live music scene.
This concert features a mix of material from their recent albums as well as classics from the band’s earlier repertoire. There will also be some brand new and previously unperformed songs destined for Fairport’s next studio album.
Each concert on the tour will feature an opening solo set from talented singer/songwriter Edwina Hayes who has worked with Jools Holland, Nanci Griffith and Roger McGuinn among others.
Fairport Convention features Simon Nicol on guitar and lead vocals, Dave Pegg on bass and backing vocals, Chris Leslie on fiddle, mandolin, bouzouki and lead vocals, Ric Sanders on violin and Gerry Conway on drums and percussion.
The band has won a coveted BBC Lifetime Achievement Award and Radio 2 listeners voted Fairport’s groundbreaking album Liege & Lief ‘The Most Influential Folk Album of All Time’.
Whether you are a long-time fan or a newcomer to their music an evening with Fairport Convention will surprise and delight you.
With special guests Kevin Dempsey and Rosie Carson.
Kevin was a long-time guitarist and vocalist with Whippersnapper which was formed by former Fairport fiddler Dave Swarbrick but his CV is massively varied and ranges from Mary Black to Percy Sledge with many great folk musicians in-between.
Rosie is a Cincinati-based fiddler separated by a generation in age from Kevin but her maturity in music effortly spans this gap. The two have recorded 2 albums since they began playing music together nine years ago.
Tickets are £19.00 each.
The Connaught Theatre is at 3 Union Place, Worthing.
