There were only 8 new housing starts in Worthing between April 1st 2012 and March 31st 2013 and only nine 9 new housing starts between April 1st 2011 and March 31st 2012.
The figures were revealed in the latest “Housing Starts on Site and Completions by Local Authority District and Tenure” report published by the Homes and Communities Agency on Tuesday June 11th.
Over the two years all housing starts were for affordable rent property with no social rent, intermediate rent, affordable home ownership, or open market properties.
This compares with total of 70 starts between April 1st 2010 and 31st March 2011 split into 45 social rent, 13 intermediate rent and 12 affordable home ownership.
The Adur District Council & Worthing Borough Council Housing Strategy 2012-17 document calls for 70 affordable properties to be started annually.
