Findon based trainer Nick Gifford is set to send a team of four runners to the Cheltenham Festival. The four day Festival is the highlight of the jump racing calendar and features the famous Cheltenham Gold Cup on Friday.
Last year Gifford was successful with his sister the olympic medallist Tina Cook in winning a race at the meeting. Tina rode Pascha Bere to victory in the St Patricks Day Derby charity race. The win was all the more poignant for the family as it followed the recent loss of their father and Grand National winning trainer Josh Gifford.
The Findon yard has four entries at the meeting that starts today (Tuesday). Tullamore Dew (pictured above) expected to run in the JLT Speciality Handicap Chase at 2.40 this afternoon is currently the outsider priced at about 33/1 but was placed (4th) last time out when he run at Cheltenham back in January.
On Wednesday Nick has two more runners – Kuilsriver (4.00) and Dollar Bill (4.40). Kuilsriver won his last race but now runs in a very competitive race where he will face strong competition. Dollar Bill will probably be outclassed by his rivals in his hurdle race. On Trend is fancied to run well in the race he is entered to on Thursday (4.40). The horse won is last race and may just follow up with another win.
If you are tempted to place a bet Crockford says place a little each way on Tullamore Dew today. Hopefully, his performance and the other stable runners will give Nick Gifford and the Findon yard something to cheer again at the Cheltenham Festival.
