Worthing residents aged between 40 and 74-years-old are eligible for free health checks in participating GP surgeries, pharmacies and community clinics.
Health checks last for half an hour and are for residents who do not have existing long-term conditions. The checks assess someone’s risk of developing heart disease, stroke, diabetes and kidney disease, and look at their lifestyle and levels of physical activity. Results are discussed with them and they are given personalised advice.
These conditions are often avoidable, and a health check could help to identify any potential issues before a problem develops.
West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Community Wellbeing Christine Field said: “The Government recently announced that it wants local authorities to roll out the health checks programme. I’m pleased to say that in West Sussex, the Public Health team has been providing free health checks to residents for more than three years.
“By having a check now, you can look at how to reduce the risk of developing health problems in the future.”
Health checks are confidential and must be booked in advance.
