Worthing Borough Council have this afternoon issued the following statement on the cancellation of the live broadcast of the Glastonbury Festival:
“Worthing Borough Council (WBC) is very disappointed that ‘Glasto’ isn’t able to be screened this coming weekend.
We had some concerns and after speaking with Glastonbury Festival Limited (GFL) and the BBC it became clear that not all the necessary permissions were in place to hold this kind of paid-for event.
If the event had gone ahead both the organiser and the Council, as owner of the land, would have faced legal action.
Worthing Borough Council is always willing and eager to work with people who want to put on events in Worthing to make sure they are legal and safe to hold.
We look forward to working with Stefan Sykes, his event partner Olly Strong and other local event organisers to bring great events to Worthing in the future.
And if anyone has any ideas for events we urge them to share them with us at the earliest opportunity.”
