Goring couple conned out of £1300

An elderly couple on Frobisher Way, Goring were conned during the last week of January out of £1300 by suspected bogus callers. The suspects knocked on their door and asked if they required any work doing. The couple agreed to some moss being cleared from their roof.

The men returned the next day and cleaned the moss from the roof but left guttering blocked with moss and stole a set of ladders. The couple both in their 80s paid the workers £1300 but had no paperwork or documentation.

PC Sharon Moore said: “This couple have given the money over before being satisfied with the work and it seems they may have been targeted because of their age.

“Make sure you always get documentation and paperwork whenever any kind of work has been agreed and check the identification of anyone who knocks on your door out of the blue. Anyone who is genuine will be happy to give you their details.

“If you are not convinced the person is genuine or do not feel comfortable about the situation, never hand over any money and report it to police on 101 or trading standards.”

Sussex Police are asking for anyone who saw these men in the area during the last week of January to contact police on 101 quoting serial 0365 of 7/2.
