Green councillor James Doyle launched a campaign today (Monday June 30th) for a new bandstand for Worthing.
Cllr Doyle points out the seafront shelter in Denton Gardens has been blocked off with unsightly fencing due to complaints about unsocial behaviour.
He said: “Removing the seating and partition from the central pavilion would create a perfect bandstand and performance area, which could be used facing north into Denton Gardens, where there is ideal seating and picnicking space on the lawn, or northwards onto the beach.
“The cost to the council would be minimal, and Worthing would gain a great new seafront asset: something we lack currently compared to Bognor, Littlehampton, Eastbourne; even Horsham has two bandstands.
“Worthing needs a bandstand a proper performance space on the seafront for anything from traditional brass bands to acoustic music to spontaneous drama.”
