Green light for new Broadwater Community Centre

Green light for new Broadwater Community Centre

Broadwater Community Association Chair Brian Fullick thought he would never see the day when his dream of a new Community Centre was fulfilled.  But at last night’s Annual General Meeting he was able to reveal to his members that the green light had been given.

Northbrook College are gifting the refectory at their Broadwater campus which was scheduled for demolition in their plans to expand. The college had already set aside a piece of land for the  new community centre but recently it dawned on them this could be a perfect opportunity to make use of the redundant building.

Brian Fullick said: “I never thought I would see this in my lifetime.”

The green light was given at a recent meeting of the college governors and Brian put the scheme to the Annual  General Meeting last night. The members were unanimous in their approval.

Broadwater Community Association are on course to raise around £250,000 by the time the work starts next year. The building needs a new roof, windows and a new entrance as well as general refurbishment but will provide a hall three times as big with better catering facilities than at the present Broadwater Parish Rooms.

Brian Fullick has been Chair now for 12 years.
