Hit and run cyclist knocks out elderly woman in Worthing

An elderly woman was knocked unconscious by a hit and run cyclist in a collision in Worthing on Tuesday afternoon (October 15th).

The woman was walking in the subway system in Chapel Road just after 5.00 pm when she was hit by the bicycle. The cyclist did not stop or offer assistance of any kind. The woman was taken to Worthing Hospital where she was treated for concussion and cuts and bruising.

PC Robin Elshof from Sussex Police’s Road Policing Unit said: “There’s no way that the rider didn’t know that they had hit the woman and their action in just riding off and leaving her lying unconscious on the ground is quite callous.

“Unfortunately, because she was knocked out, she has no recollection of the incident at all, so we’re really keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision, who was in the area at the time and saw the cyclist using the subway or who has any information at all about the incident to give us a call on 101 quoting serial 1068 of  October 15th.

“I would hope that the cyclist themselves might well have some pang of conscience and come forward.”
