Hunt a stag at Cortis Avenue Wildlife Garden

Hunt a stag at Cortis Avenue Wildlife Garden

Cortis Avenue Wildlife Garden needs volunteers to locate any Stag Beetle larvae at their Open Day on Saturday November 9th from noon to 4.00 pm.

The Stag Beetles’ habitat was severely disrupted when gales blew down a large aged Hawthorn last week adjacent to the new seating area. The larvae were at its root base.  Contractors will shortly be dealing with the fallen tree which will stay on site to provide decaying matter for new habitat creation.

Donated wood chippings also need to moved for the seating area and to create that Stag Beetle habitat.  There are new plants for the ‘Woodland’ planting area for those wishing some light gardening and some messing about with baby trees.

The small mountain of wood chippings need to be moved from the entrance and volunteers would be appreciated if possible the day before (Friday November 8th) or before noon on Saturday.
