‘Johnny Cash & The Smileys’ at Smugglers Return

Johnny Cash Tribute and The Smileys Country Motown & Rock-n-Roll Show is at The Smugglers Return from 4.30 pm this afternoon (Sunday March 1st).

The Johnny Cash Tribute and The Smileys are Steve and Laura.

Steve started out in the music industry in 1978 as lead singer and rhythm guitarist for his 5 piece Rock-n-Roll Band Raven. “We toured the world” Steve says with great enthusiasm supporting Quo, Billy Idol, Freddie & The Dreamers, Sweet, Slade, Cliff, Tom Jones and many more, “They were very heady and educational times”.

The years progressed and the band went in different directions, Steve found himself as a solo act, and put together a Rock-n-Roll stand-up Comedy Show and again toured the world. The big name 60’s & 70’s bands had already had a taste of Steve’s warm-up skills and welcomed him as a solo.

In 1989 Steve played Elvis, then it was known as ‘impersonator’ working for both the US and British military Worldwide, also playing for many Embassy and High Commission functions.

Production companies employed Steve as a TV game show warm up, a job he enjoyed very much. At this time the British military asked Steve to work overseas with their entertainment agent and the decision to move to Cyprus was made.

This progressed until the beginning of 2009, where Steve had moved back to the UK and one night performed a one-off, six song tribute to Johnny Cash, he took the music and the ‘Man’ to his heart immediately.

Today, Steve and Laura are performing throughout the world with a good mixture of music from 50’s, 60’s Johnny Cash, The Drifters, Dusty Springfield, Diana Ross to 70’s Quo, The Rolling Stones, Sweet plus many more.

Steve & Laura perform together as The Smileys duo. It’s unlikely you will see one without the other.

The Johnny Cash Show is followed by The Smileys and has now become and an independent music show in its own right, a creation from demand – including hits by Diana Ross & The Supremes, The Ronettes, Elvis, Willie Nelson, The Crystals, The Drifters, The Temptations, The Monkees, The Beatles, Swinging Blue Jeans and Buddy Holly.
