‘Madama Butterfly’ from Opera Australia at Connaught Cinema

The Connaught Cinema, Worthing presents Madama Butterfly (PG) from Opera Australia in Cinemas at 7.00 pm tomorrow night (Thursday September 18th).

One of the world’s most spectacular events, Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour, is a modern retelling of Puccini’s tale of love and honour, Madama Butterfly.

It is the third opera to be staged on the magnificent water stage, suspended over the harbour against a backdrop of the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. This outdoor spectacle includes a giant sun and moon, both 12 metres wide, which will rise from the water to hang above the stage where Japanese soprano Hiromi Omura will portray tragic Cio-Cio San with her co-star Georgy Vasiliev who performs as Pinkerton.

Past Handa productions have included La Traviata, which featured a giant chandelier floating above the stage, along with last year’s Carmen. Each Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour production gets bigger and better every year – this year is no exception and there will be fireworks, of course!

Italian with subtitles.

Running time:  approximately 2 hours 20 minutes including one 15 minute interval.

Tickets are priced at £14.50 with concessions at £2.00 discount and Friends at £3.00 discount.

The Connaught Cinema is at 3 Union Place, Worthing.
