Micro Pub ‘boss’ starts petition to save Worthing Tourist Office on seafront

Nigel Watson, the ‘boss’ at the ‘Anchored in Worthing’ micro pub, started a petition this week to save the Tourist Information Centre on the seafront.

The petition calls on Worthing Borough Council to ‘Stop the closure of the Tourist Office on Marine Parade’.   It states the Tourist Office is ‘a focal point for visitors to our seaside town, it is staffed by real people who have proper knowledge, the sort of thing that cannot be re-produced by a machine’.

Further the petition says  ‘the Tourist Office is an important factor in the regeneration of our town an should be recognised as such.  Touch screens around the town centre can not give the same level of service to our visitors as the experienced staff of a physical office and point of reference.’

Nigel said: “A seaside town without a Tourist Information Centre is just a town beside the sea.”

The decision to close the Tourist Information Centre was taken by the Worthing Cabinet at the Joint Strategic Committee on Tuesday December 2nd.

Nigel’s petition can be found at change.org.
