Worthing World Development Movement (WDM) group hosts a talk by Chris Cole, secretary of the UK Drones Campaign Network, about how drones are being used and future plans for them. The talk is at the Friends Meeting House, 34 Mill Road on Sunday December 8th from 2.30 pm to 4.00 pm.
The WDM group says: “There has been a massive rise in the use of armed unmanned drones, often controlled from thousands of miles away, to launch deadly airstrikes. Supporters of drones say they are accurate weapons, but in Pakistan, Gaza , Afghanistan and Yemen, many innocent civilians have been killed.
“Some argue that drones are no different from other weapons, but is the reality the fact that drones may be making the option of resorting to war much easier?
“What is extremely worrying is that a whole new type of weapons system, which has the potential to change the way in which armed conflicts are fought, is being developed behind the scene with almost no public discussion or oversight.”
Chris Cole is a researcher and activist. He is co‐author of Convenient Killing: Armed Drones and the Playstation Mentality, and maintains the respected Drone Wars UK website (www.dronewars.net).
