The Worthing Town Centre Initiative (WCTI) has chosen Worthing Mayor Bob Smytherman as their new Town Crier.
Bob plays the role in the Community Play in June and WCTI are delighted he has agreed to become Worthing’s Town Crier when his mayoral term comes to an end in June. They now need his Town Crier robes so if anyone knows anyone that could help please get in touch on 01903 203252.
Bob said: “”The idea of being the next Town Crier for Worthing came following an approach by the Directors of the Worthing Community Play which opens on June 14th where I was asked to Henry Richardson the Victorian Town Crier for Worthing.
“ I suggested to the Worthing Town Centre Initiative that this might be something the town would like to consider as it is around 20 years since the town had its Town Crier after Philip Holliday sadly passed away at a young age. I see this as the next step in continuing my work as Mayor and really putting our town on the map”
The Town Crier will help welcome tourists to Worthing and promote events and activities around the town.
