Local man sentenced for abuse of Worthing boy

 

Reginald Collins, 62, retired, of Freehold St, Shoreham, appeared in custody at Chichester Crown Court on Monday (September 15th). He was sentenced to four years in prison plus a six-year extended sentence, having pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to sexual assault and grooming of a 14-year-old boy on Worthing Pier.

Collins had befriended the local boy who was fishing on the pier during Easter this year, kept contacting him afterwards carried out a sexual assault on him in May.

Detective Constable Chris Merryfield-Day said; “Collins befriended the boy on the pretext of helping him with fishing equipment and tips, but clearly had a more sinister motive. As soon as the victim’s family contacted us, we identified and arrested Collins, and he has been in custody ever since.”
