Wednesday sees the first Worthing County Local Committee (CLC) of the new West Sussex County Council. The CLC is a meeting in public of the nine County Councillors representing Worthing on West Sussex. A valued feature of these meetings is “Talk with us”.
During “Talk with us” Worthing residents can ask the committee any question they wish about the services and workings of West Sussex County Council. The nine councillors can all contribute to the answers and if any questions need further information the committee commits to bringing back an answer to the next meeting.
It is refreshing the session is so relaxed with an opportunity for others to contribute to the conversation and a maximum opportunity for supplementary questions and answers. A genuine dialogue takes place which compares favourably with the stilted “public question” time of Worthing Borough Council where only the Leader or a Cabinet Member responds and no other Councillor is allowed to contribute. Nor are other members of the public allowed to chip in and nor is there any real opportunity for the poser of the question to open up a discussion.
So if you are worried about the giant crater which is a pot hole outside your house, the new lampposts in your street are too bright, your child is not going to the school of your choice or you would like to know exactly where the Worthing parking money goes just go along to the CLC and ask.
The Worthing CLC meeting is in The Georgian Room, The Chatsworth Hotel on Wednesday June 5th at 7.00 pm.
Worthing Daily will be there – we hope you will be too.
