In the second of our regular Tuesday Comment features Worthing Daily reader Susanna Humphreys shares her ideas for car parking:
As we all know Worthing was not built for cars. Therefore we need to approach the problem radically. On road parking causes problems to motorists and pedestrians and especially those with wheelchairs and buggies.
Therefore I suggest that areas be set aside for free parking – if we look carefully there may be a house near a corner with a large garden which could be taken over.
The lower portion of Davison’s field is waterlogged and unused – ideal.
If we look carefully around Worthing we will find many such spots which could be used. Unfortunately there will not be enough to fulfil all requirements but we could take quite a lot of vehicles off the roads. There are also all the people who have off road garages or parking who do not use them.
A way needs to be found to make the owners use them. We need to stop the negative idea of ‘it can`t be done’ and find a way.
