UKIP win Castle by-election

UKIP win Castle by-election

Charles James is back on Worthing Borough Council after winning yesterday’s (Thursday August 7th) by-election in Castle ward for UKIP.   UKIP gained the seat from the Liberal Democrats.

The by-election was caused by the disqualification of former councillor David Potter for failing to attend a council meeting over the required six month period.

Cllr James is a former Mayor and represented Durrington ward from 2010 to 2014.  Elected as a Conservative in 2010 Cllr James crossed the floor to UKIP in July 2013 but failed to get re-elected in June this year.

Votes were cast as follows:

Jim Deen – Labour – 197

Alex Harman – Conservative – 485

Charles James – UKIP – 568

Stefan Sykes – Green – 49

Nick Wiltshire – Liberal Democrat – 242
