Wild (15) is the Silver Screen showing at the Connaught Cinema, Worthing on Monday March 16th. Tea and coffee are at 10.30 am with the film starting at 11.00 am.
In 1995, Cheryl Strayed set out alone on a 1,100-mile hike along America’s Pacific Crest Trail, through the Sierra Nevada and Cascade mountain ranges in California and Oregon.
Struggling to come to terms with her mother’s death and her own painful divorce, she was embarking on an epic journey of self-discovery and redemption that would take more than three months to complete, and that she later recounted in a bestselling memoir.
Jean-Marc Vallée, who crafted a powerful film from another real-life story with 2013’s Dallas Buyers Club, here directs a magnificent performance by Witherspoon, who has earned her second Oscar nomination for her brave and graceful portrayal of Strayed.
Overpacked and underprepared, the diminutive heroine deals with harsh terrain, extreme weather, dangerous strangers and her own emotional turmoil – all set against the beautifully photographed backdrop of the American wild.
Running time: 115 minutes.
Silver Screen is a diverse mixture of the best modern movies, foreign language films and vintage Hollywood cinema, screening every Monday morning.
