Worthing Cabinet Member accused of rude and threatening behaviour

A Worthing Cabinet Member appears before the Standards Committee tomorrow night ( Thursday August 14th) accused by a resident of being rude and threatening to her.

Ms Mandy Lelliott alleges that Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Regeneration Bryan Turner was rude and threatening to her when he called at her address on November 22nd 2013.

She states that when she answered the door to him he confronted her in respect of a Worthing Facebook entry she had posted, thrusting a copy of the Facebook entry at her and demanding  an apology. In her complaint she says it was not until she called the police that the Councillor left.

Cllr Turner says in his statement that when he called he showed Ms Lelliott a copy of the post  and explained that he had come to explain the correct circumstances and that he would require a public retraction and apology. He further states he consciously chose not to shout at Mrs Lelliot as he knew it was important to retain his composure and not to act in a threatening manner.

The committee has to consider the evidence and determine whether or not the Code of Conduct has been breached by Councillor Turner.
