Worthing town centre car park charges will be £1.00 for one hour for a three month trial period starting April next year. Cabinet members agreed tonight at the Joint Strategic Committee to recommend the new charge for approval at the next Full Council.
The charge will apply to the High Street, Grafton and Buckingham Multi-Storey car parks where the current one hour tariff is £1.70. Other stay periods are also reduced: 2 hours to £2.00, 3 hours £3.00, 4 hours £4.00, 5 hours £5.00 and all day £10.00.
Leader of the Council Paul Yallop hopes increased usage of the car parks will offset the loss of revenue.
Officers estimate the impact of the reduction on a yearly basis is a £570,000 cost to the council’s budget which would be met from reserves if increased revenue fails to materialise.
