Worthing Hospital Friends donate £100k to Meadowfield

Last Wednesday (June 26th) Meadowfield Hospital, Worthing celebrated a £100,000 donation from the Friends of Worthing Hospital.

Worthing Mayor Bob Smytherman unveiled a plaque acknowledging the donation at the hospital which provides inpatient mental health care for Worthing and the surrounding area. The hospital is run by Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

The generous cash boost has enabled improvements that will make the experience of patients even better. This includes comfortable and hard-wearing furniture, new televisions, furniture for the faith room, games, books, radios, therapeutic and activity equipment and a sensory machine which in some cases can be used as a low level therapeutic intervention.

The Mayor of Worthing and members of the Friends of Worthing Hospitals visited the refurbished areas and saw for themselves what has been achieved.

Bob said: “I was delighted to visit Meadowfield and see for myself how this amazing amount of money given by local people and donated by the league of friends has been spent to improve the experience of local people suffering from mental illness.”

“It was personally a very moving experience meeting staff that cared for my own Mum on Larch Ward in the hospital just a few years ago and who supported her to make full recovery.”

“It was also very special to be joined by Sharon, Community Services Manager for Worthing and Arun MIND where I have been a trustee for some years and one of my Mayoral charities.”

Lucy Mills, Matron at Meadowfield, said, “We are really proud of this hospital. Our people here help patients to recover and support them when they are often vulnerable and unwell. This donation has enabled us to make a real difference to patients staying at Meadowfield. On behalf of all of us I thank the Friends of Worthing Hospitals for their commitment and support to local NHS mental health services.”

Janet Webber, Vice Chair of the Friends of Worthing Hospitals said, “We are delighted to be able to hand this donation over to Meadowfield. The Friends’ aim is to supplement the comfort and wellbeing of patients, relatives, staff and visitors to Worthing hospitals and this donation will continue to benefit Meadowfield for years to come.”
